For everybody who knows me, I'm a very positive person, in the sense that it's very hard to find me complaining about anything.

But something is going on lately that has been frustrating me so much that I feel I shouldn't hide it to myself because I know many artists out there are feeling the same as I am now. And the cause of this enormous frustration is these AI-generated images that have been spamming all around, especially on DeviantArt.

Now, I don't have a problem with this medium itself, as there's no way of stopping such a thing from happening. I might even consider using it at some point in the future to help accelerate my work process.

The problem I have with it is that there's no way for a traditional artist like myself to compete with something like this when it comes to the quantity of work. And when you work with the internet, you realize that both platforms and people prefer quantity over quality(the number of times I got people complaining about my work that I don't post as much is pretty ridiculous).

As a vector-based artist, I know I work pretty fast, but I also learned through the years that people don't care about the means you use to get results, only about the results themselves, and this whole AI-generated thing is proof of it.

Yesterday, I came across one of these AI "artists", and in only three weeks of DeviantArt page, they had over 5k watchers. Now, the number might not sound so impressive, but there's something else that needs to be considered. In the almost three years that I have an account there, I have *only* 12k watchers.

Now, I won't ever stop doing what I do, because I know some people genuinely appreciate my work, and the number of patrons I have is proof of that.

What sads me is to see that a person who only writes a prompt on an AI-generation program and that have never studied anatomy, perspective, or color theory, receives the same appreciation(if not more) than a real artist like me.

So, what are your thoughts on this whole AI thing?

I think it's interesting tech, but it never really makes what you want. I mean, in this line of things people already caption existing art and put out large quantities also.

If an Ai would generate an image for me I wouldn’t appreciate it nearly as much as an actual person drew one for me. I never used such tools/websites for Ai generated art, and I never will. It just makes me happy when someone takes there time/inspiration to draw something u like :) Quality > Quantity

Honestly. Ive tried the big 4 ones out right now, and NONE of them produce works that are in my needs. 4k or higher resolution, wide screen or even triscreen, detail flow. I mean, don't get me wrong, the algorithms do their best, but what im doing with the images after won't work. So i still hand draw what i need before moving it into my 3d space irl

Setting aside the moral argument (I firmly believe it hurts the work done by artists), AI art to me is absurdly creepy to look at. Since it's computer generated, it doesn't understand anatomy or scale, causing details that should be distinct to blend together in ways they shouldn't (this is especially bad when living creatures are involved). It's gotten better over time, but noticing those details throws me right into the Uncanny Valley.

I had no experience of them so I tried Canva online. I typed in “woman in a bikini on a blanket in a snowy forest” — in one image the poor woman’s body was horribly twisted, head on completely backwards looking at her own bottom. The other was sort of Rackhamesque but not great. My conclusion is that this is not an advance in tools as was replacing traditional physical media with a vector app like Illustrator, there’s no creative work going on. It’s a gum ball machine that gives drawings as a prize.

I start following one artist without realizing at that moment it was AI generated. All his "works" are the same. I could even say soulless... a unfollow him because it was boring and very mediocre... your art is inspiring and beautiful.

From what I saw, the one creating the best results is called NovelAI. I don't know how it does for other things, but sure it knows to generate attractive anime girls.

Well I will be totally honest with you ,. I apologize in advance as English is not my main language, but I hope you can understand me. AI is the future , we can like it or not , but we can not stop it to happen . Today it is not as good as human but eventually will reach the same level in maybe 2 or 3 years , and after that probably will not be match for a human be able to match speed and quality. This will not only happen to artist , is happening in other industries, I know your feeling because I see how an AI develop basic modules of my current work in seconds . It was not as good as the ones I do today . But we are mad because we understand what it means. My advice is take time to play with those tools , learn how to use them and when the future reach you , you will be ready.

English is also not my first language, so we're all fine here. As a said in my post, yes, I admit there's no way to stop it from happening. What will define if it's going to stick or not is the market, and right now, people's overall opinion on it is pretty divisive. If the market indeed follows this way, I see no problem in changing what I do. It would not be the first time that I did it anyway.
