Hey all!

The July Exclusive is coming along relatively well.
I wanted to share with you my Dungeness Crabs a bit of my process while I work on this.

Generally after sketching a piece out, I will throw down flat colors on the characters and background elements. I make sure to separate these out in order of overlap + far/midddle/near to make it easier to paint later.
Here you can see me working on some raw values which I will apply to the flat color layer with a multiply filter to get a general idea for how the shadows will look.

With the multiply effect applied, I can spend more time getting volumes figured out and making sure my three dimensional shapes aren't flat.

After I get the value layer cleaned up, but definitely not perfect, I will separate it by using the flat color layers to make selections, merge the lines + values + flats, and painting over them. I will also use additional layer effects to alter colors without needing to repaint large sections.

Hope you guys enjoy the preview. The piece should be finished up this weekend.
