A Hunter's Judgement (First Look) (Patreon)

And now for something completely different from what I planned-

So July is two things: It's ArtFight (which is basically just aggressive art trading), and it's the month that contains my OC Orion's birthday (which is the 30th). I got some insane pieces from ArtFight this year that really inspired me to just take a minute and make a weird painting to... celebrate(?) this terrible man's birthday!

This piece is meant to be a take on The Judgement tarot card. I've tried to make tarot card art so many times but this was the first time any ideas really landed for me. Judgement's supposed to have themes of self-evaluation, reflection, reckoning, etc which are all core to Orion's Entire Backstory, so it seemed fitting. The mangled Trumpeter Swan takes the place of the usual depiction of Gabriel's trumpet call. It also symbolizes his dead (not really) brother Cygnus, and if you didn't know, that name means Swan. Orion, the guy from the myth, is a hunter, hence the bow and arrows. The more rudimentary form of his augment clings to him like the outstretched arms usually seen in the Judgement card artwork. Lastly, the entire piece is bathed in the heat and light of Cleo's judgmental eye, and makes you ask "who's really the hunter in this image?" It was a fun exercise in sitting down and creating a tarot card. If I were delusional and had infinite time, I would consider making the entire major arcana but... who knows! I promise nothing in that department.

Anyway, August should be back on track. I will be doing the fall themed (and likely Halloween themed) YCH drop probably in the start of August, just to make sure I get those turned around in time for them to be in season! I may turn this piece into a sticker? I like to do bonus stickers on my birthday month, so we'll see...
