Kiaria looked down at Khalil, crawling on his knees.

"Just look at the mess you've made."

She leaned forward, smiling at him.

"Did you learn your lesson?"

"Yes ma'am."

"–Doctor. You know the rules."

"Yes– Doctor."

"Good. Did you learn your lesson?"

Khalil nodded.

"Show me."

Khalil cautiously crawled backwards, revealing the clean floor beneath his palms. He was regretting taking the stupid dare.

"Good."

"Can I go now? I need–"

"No! Say it! Tell me what you learned."

Khalil considered ignoring her and just getting up, but he couldn't help but feel a little afraid of Kiaria when she was in one of her moods.

"Well? What did you learn? Say it!"

"I– uhm. I'll wipe my shoes before tracking mud all over your clean floors."

"Why?"

Kiaria glared sternly at Khalil, her eyes filled with lightning.

"Why? Because you said so."

"No! Well– Yes, because I said so, but that's not– clean floors save lives."

Khalil scoffed at her. His back was aching, and he felt humiliated in his silly Halloween costume. It had seemed like a good idea at the time– Veera and the Mah'Abeu had thought it was funny. They had all laughed together, but he wasn't laughing anymore.

"Did you just scoff at me!?"

"No ma'am– Doctor."

"Good, because you had better believe that when you are lying sick on one of my beds, and some brave soul plays a prank on a dare by making a mess of my floors, I'm going to do everything in my power to show them the error of their ways."

"Yes, Doctor."

"Good. You may go now."

"Thank you, Doctor."

Kiaria watched as Khalil slowly got up from his knees and headed for the door. He couldn't get away fast enough.

"Oh– Khalil?"

Khalil froze and raised his chin towards the ceiling with his eyes closed. He had been so close.

"Yes, Doctor?"

"Send Veera and the Mah'Abeu this way after you've relayed your experience. I'm sure they're anxiously waiting to learn how their prank went."

"Yes, Doctor."
