So I’ve always thought Ren’Py wasn’t that difficult, and after a sleepless night, writing and coding a small 20 minute proof of concept project,I have to say I feel amazing. (I have slept in the meantime)

After my short project I watched some Youtube videos and learnt some more stuff. While I am by no means an expert coder, having a slight coding background really does help when learning a new language. I can confidently say I am able to code this project to completion.

In other news, COVID-19 has been a two bladed sword. It has given me a lot more time to focus on the project, and I’ve been making more progress in a single day than I used to make over several weeks. On the other hand, due to our nationwide lock-down, our economy and currency has tanked. This means getting talented artists for the money that they are worth is going to be difficult.

I’ve always known that this project will be completed, even without Patreon or other income support. The project would always have been funded with my personal income, and any money sourced outside would have just sped up development, but with the currency situation right now, and a few other factors I might have to source local artists or find an unicorn willing to draw for what I can afford. It’s still going to happen, just maybe a little slower than I planned.

This isn’t affecting the development timeline yet. I have been happily coding and writing while using placeholder art, and will be able to do so for the foreseeable future. I just won’t be able to prettify the Patreon or Itch.io page with pictures yet, and might have to release a draft with placeholder art to get some people invested in the project. While using placeholder art is not ideal, I have to show what I’ve done. I wouldn’t feel comfortable asking for people to support the without having something concrete to show them.
