If you’ll allow me a second to speak in defense of schesca. I had undiagnosed adhd for years and, among other things, I could only excel in a number of very specific circumstances and subjects. Any advice I did receive was used then forgotten about with a few weeks, not because I didn’t want to but because my brain was predisposed to functioning a certain way. But no one thought anything was wrong because I could naturally excel at certain topics so they determined it must have been a matter of effort. The fact that I couldn’t excel exacerbated my already high stress as I went into the workforce and again when Covid hit. It built to the point where I had to be hospitalized for a bit. If I had the stress of others relying on me rather than the other way around my brain would have likely been as useful as a poached egg whether I liked it or not. It was only fairly recently that I got my condition identified, found the right medication and formed loopholes that I could use to build my skill sets. The point that I am hopefully making is that for some people simply working harder or even smarter just isn’t in the cards and it’s about taking time to find what works and what doesn’t work because rushing the process can have consequences. That being said I am by no means an expert and only have my own very niche experience to go off so if you have a counter point I would love to hear it.
