Yeah... Yeah, I think it needs to be said now: Gohan was literally better off at the end of the Cell Saga. Gohan, from the Buu Saga and forward, essentially becomes the fandom's biggest pile of wasted potential, and it's a tradition spanning decades. Basically, Toriyama claims that he "tried" to play Gohan as the new hero of Earth, but that his temperament didn't lend itself to it. Or, more cynically... fans wanted Goku and would never shut up about it, refusing to let the series evolve. Gohan becomes the strongest of the heroes with his Mystic upgrade, but it's ultimately for naught. It just comes back to Goku and Vegeta. It's a problem that's plagued Dragonball ever since. The "Next Generation" of Z Warriors is rendered a freaking joke. Goten and Trunks are too immature, and Gohan is just utterly sidelined. From here and onward, Goku and Vegeta become the only characters allowed to do anything of substance, because they're so bankably marketable. Toei is TERRIFIED of stepping beyond the tried and true Saiyan love/hate duo. This is why people often say that the Cell Saga was Dragonball's most ideal endpoint, offering an optimistic future helmed by a new hero, while the old passes the torch. It's far from the only reason why Team Four Star never put their own spin on the Buu Saga, but it's honestly better for it. There's still a lot of gold nuggets to find in latter-day Dragonball content, be it GT or Super, but you can tell the series is troubled with more and more characters fighting to remain relevant, or the formula becoming more and more brazen and obvious. And when fans finally cried out for other characters to get more love, Toei responded in the most corporate, mindless manner possible. I ADORE Dragonball, but in a lot of ways, it really should have stopped while it was ahead.

this is not even the darkest moment yall just wait like it gets spooky , also dragonball super is litterally 10 times what dbz is. everything is 10x the comedy, the villains ,the story cant wait yall are gonna love super more than dbz

Demon of Empire

The Idea of DBZ fans wanting Goku back is just a myth. It was Toriyama himself who didn't really like Gohan as the Main MC.
