I’m so glad that you both enjoyed watching these cartoons, they are very nostalgic for me as I grew up watching them when I was younger (I’m 26 now). The Looney tunes as well as many other cartoons of the time were released as theatrical shorts that played before feature films similar to how we have movie trailers today so yes they were mainly geared towards adults. Warner Brothers would not start airing the theatrical shorts on television until 1960 because Home television did not yet exist and wouldn't be in most American homes until after WW2 . The theatrical shorts of the classic Looney Tunes were produced from 1930 to 1969 and were broken up into two series: the Looney Tunes shorts and a second series called Merrie Melodies. For the first few years the Looney tunes were the classic comedy shorts and the Merrie Melodies were usually focused on a song, but after a few years the difference became that the Looney Tunes shorts were produced in black and white and all of the Merrie Melodies would be in color this lasted from 1934 until the end of 1943 when all Warner Brothers shorts switched to color. From that point forward the only difference between Looney Tunes shorts and Merrie Melodies shorts are the intro themes that play at the beginnings of the shorts. The first of the recognizable characters that would be created were in 1935 with Porky Pigs short I Haven't Got a Hat, the first Daffy Duck short was Porky's Duck Hunt that came out in 1937 and the first Bugs Bunny cartoon was A Wild Hare that came out in 1940. The legendary voice actor who voices about 90 percent of the characters in the shorts was Mel Blanc who is famous for doing many of the famous cartoon voices from 1927 until 1989. Also the character that you liked from the zoo cartoon is named Egghead he was a semi recurring that appeared from 1937 to 1938.
