Well, thankfully for you, Unital Ring has basically everything you asked for. More slice of life moments, school moments, more time with other characters who are not Kirito and Asuna, and some other stuff too (Some that you didn't even know you needed). It's also much slower paced, which some might see as a bad thing, but I personally like it. Gives the story more time to breathe. But yeah, the placement of the "Caliburn" short story makes sense chronologically, but I don't feel it fits it too well in in the story. This story doesn't take place in the novels until volume 8. Phantom Bullet (GGO) takes place in volumes 5 and 6, while Mother's Rosario takes place in volume 7. In a way I understand that it might feel like a sudden jump from Phantom Bullet to Mother's Rosario and Caliburn gives it a more fluid transition to it, but I still don't think they should've done that.
