Actually, Acnologia's backstory is an exclusive to the anime. In the manga he's just being there mumbling "DESTROY! DESTROY! DESTROY!" without getting any single story at all lol. Also the scene with Acnologia and a random little girl will hit you differently after you watched the second movie.

Gaming University

100 Year quests are just guild requests that have been posted for a century and NO ONE has been able to complete it. They mention the tiers of quests near the beginning of the show. Regular, S-Class quest, decade quests and century quests. Gildarts went on a 100 year quest and failed. This quest was to kill Acnologia. Just to give you an idea just how hard these quests are. My opinion of the final fight is that Acnologia was frozen as a result of the Fairy Sphere spell. Combined with the fact Igneel ripped off his left arm, the big bad was left defenseless by the efforts of others which left him vulnerable to Natsu's final attack.
