Half-Demon is just a racial slur for Half-elfs, it doesn't mean they are actually half-demon. This is also made clearer through the Kanji used here in japanese. It's is 魔 (Ma), a character that is part of Magic (Mahou /魔法) Witch (Majou/ 魔女) or Demon/Devil (Akuma / 悪魔) no the one in the Demons like Rem or Ram (Oni / 鬼), they are basically their own type of thing distinct from the western interpretation of Demons. Based on what we know Emilia, and the average half elf, is half-human half Elf. Though I wont claim it impossible for there to be a half elf that was born from a Elf and Demon (Oni / 鬼) or that there might also be demons (Akuma / 悪魔) in Re:Zero, at the point at which I am in the novels neither has been directly stated to be impossible. The untranslated parts were Puck's vow, it spelled out that he was forbidden from involving himself too deeply with Emilia and that if he did he would loose his memories, his feelings, his goals, the things that´make him him. So with his decision to make a contract with Emilia, which definitely counts at getting deeply involved, he really became someone whose whole purpose to exist is Emilia, since he lost everything he was before the contract.
