The frozen bonds movie gives additional context to Season 2. You can watch it afterwards and still understand everything in Season 2 but it would probably be better to watch it before. It came out before Season 2 and was basically inserted to after the Memory Snow OVA, before the start of Arc 3.

Something I didn't catch until my fourth or fifth watch was how Petelgeuse was a mirror for Subaru. The last confrontation really drives it home when Petelgeuse says lines like "what you did meant everything to me" and "even if you've forgotten, I never will". Petelgeuse is obsessed with his love for Satella, he loves her so much that he believes that his "love" gives him justification to do whatever he sees an necessary, no matter what the witch believes. Sound Familiar? Subaru at the beginning of the arc acted the same way. Both were practicing sloth as they both were attempting to take the easy way, "everything I do is justified because it is for love, right?" Subaru was able to grow past that. Petelgeuse was not.
