Demon of Empire

The Lord Slug film initially came out right around the time that the Super Saiyan Transformation was Revealed in the Manga. At the time, the people working on the movie knew that the Transformation was gonna have the Hair Standing up on Goku and he would have a Golden Aura, but they didn't have all the Details just Yet.

This movie is the best one so far like wow lol. Also this starts a lil pattern where the movies start connecting with each other. The last one ended with Piccolo in a waterfall and this one starts with him there. Also I believe this movie does take place after Namak so Goku does know how to turn Super Saiyan by this point. I believe also that in sub they reference Frieza. Next movie and then you are all caught up, but Movie 5 is not on Funimation so you'll have yo watch it elsewhere. You'll have to do that for movies 8-12 as well. There is also the Father of Goku special that was canon but is officially nit anymore. It has been ret conned over time. After next movie is back to the series, I've missed watching the show along with you guys.

Really liked this movie, even if it was just King Piccolo 2. lol Fight scenes were brutal and the impacts were.............crunchy?......Yeah I'll go with that. Now, the Super Saiyan thing. Like Demon of Empire said, the studio the basic design of this transformation, but they didn't know the hair was suppose to change color at the time. I believe the fanbase has nicknamed this form False Super Saiyan. And finally, the whistle. Tat (I mean this endearingly)........It doesn't matter if it's good. Piccolo's got dog ears. That noise is like a Dog Whistle times 100 for the poor guy. Fun fact, loud high pitched whistling actually hurts my ears, quite a bit, so I completely understand Piccolo's suffering (.........still funny though) Last thing, Abridge Krillin........you will love him. That's all I will say.

So this movie came out before super saiyan was released to the public. This version that you have seen was what the creators were guessing the super saiyan would look like and act like. They did not know it would be a full transformation and treated it like a more powerful version of Kaio-ken without the strain on the body. They also had no clue about the hair change (which admittedly was only there cos they didnt want to have to keep inking all of Goku's hair) so they kept it black. Also the whistling hurt the nameks not due to it being a bad song but because the frequency of the sound was so painful for them. It hurt like it would hurt us to hear really high frequencies or really loud sounds. King Kai explained this while you were chittering over the movie haha. Side note: Icarus is a non-canon character that only appears in the main series when there is filler......mostly. Toryama is notorious for forgetting things about this series (case and point Launch) so he may show up in the main series once or twice but he is purely non-canon.

Bonus comment: Abridged has versions of each movie up to a certain point where they stopped doing it (still sad but understands) so all the ones you have seen and many more are available with them too. And they are a little more in the abridged canon than these are. Krillin in abridged is very much so recognized as the punching bag character....straight form the first episode. So look forward to that haha.

I came here to say this lol the only thing I would add is because of the style they used being different than the what the super saiyan finally looked like this is mostly referred to as a "false super saiyan" due to not having the blue eyes they usually do when transformed
