They do fill in some of the blanks in the books. Like for instance Tonky in season 2. Kirito mentioned that he and Leafa fell into the snow area and met him. this is actually covered in the Fairy Dance arc books, but was cut from the anime. But from what i can remember aside from kinda...details...the anime is pretty consistent with the books. And by details i mean like the reasoning behind things like Sword Skills in Aincrad, and the Personal Sword Skills in Alfheim Online (like Mother's Rosario that Yukki gave Asuna), and other such internal mechanics of the games. The whole thing about Kirito being the mentor and not the protagonist. Its actually something that could be said about a LOT of the arcs in this series. That would be a deep dive though, so i shall think more on it. Yeah the whole thing about SAO not being about...SAO...anymore is one of the oldest arguments people have about the show. I honestly agree that the story might have been better served if the Aincrad Arc was a season or two long. But you are right there is a lot about technology itself now, and its a good angle to take. Memory is a big thing in the Alicization Arc. (and yes its hard to pronounce, Al-i-sis-ation, is about as close as i can get with this one.) As for Asuna calling Sinon, Sinon-non, I don't think -non is an actual honorific, i think its just a nickname, kinda like adding a y to the end of your name. And also from the way that Kirito reacted when she called her that, i am guessing its also more than a little silly. Just a funny, if you arent watching in English, Klien calls Kirito, Kiri-dude, which often isnt included in the subtitles. Not sure if its Klien's VA taking liberties (which it could be, the dub cast tries to put their own flavor on the show.), or if he actually does call him that in the books, i cannot remember. Also something i had kinda taken for granted over the years. The animators go to a lot of trouble to use slightly different animation styles, depending on what WORLD we are in. On the subject of the law, its probably why they are out in the ocean, taking advantage of international waters or something.

Not sure if you noticed, but I'm pretty one of Yuna's songs are playing on the radio when Klein is driving Asuna and Sugu in episode 5. So as a lore thing... it seems Yuna/her music still seems to be prominent in the world!

Last 10 episodes for the English Dub come out november 7th (I've already watched the Sub version) I'm still excited though because those last 10 episodes (takes deep breath) yeah wow. Anyways please do me the favor of not trying to compare this with other Anime you've seen as you do this quite a lot but you have spoiled a few things for me on other Anime that I just started watching. I love hearing your thoughts but I'm sure you can explain what you need without spoiling other Anime. If you don't mind it would be much appreciated. You are so early on in the arc that you are barely down the rabbit hole,. I am very excited for you though because what a truly wonderful ride you're in for. One thing I really truly appreciate about this series is how things that happened and were talked about from every season has meaning through out. Everything that happened matters. And as great as this arc is whats alluded to for what comes next is just so exciting. Anyways some back ground info for you, Sword Art Online is also cannon wise connected to Accel World which is written by the same author. Also when Steven Spielberg directed and made Ready Player One he talked to Reki about Sword Art and the parallels. And when Reki first wrote the story it was never about being trapped in a game as much as it was about a love story in a game. (hence the time skips) At least this is what info I have come across from what others have relayed. Sword Art Online progressive is him going back to tell exactly what happens floor by floor of Aincrad. The last 2 light novels 19 and 20 are a side story Called Moon cradle but I won't mention much about it as it has major spoilers. There is one Last big arc left that isn't finished being written but will be adapted to anime when it is. It starts with book 21 and it's called Sword Art Online: Unital Ring. Book 21 was already published in Japan in November of 2018 but as far as I know the English version comes out January 19, 2021

Also Fyi there are story elements of characters and side stories that are not in the books or anime but explored in some of the games. Though the playstation games have their own continuity and story and original characters. But the mobile games have story elements and characters not explored in the Light Novels or Anime
