If you think that you will read some Poe, maybe before a rewatch of this show, I would actually start with "The Mask Of Red Death." He took the title and some things from "The Fall Of The House Of Usher," but I would say that the core theme of this show comes from that one. The one thing I didn't personally like about this use of Poe was how sexual this party was. Because it gave this sense of like extreme punishing for what presented as like a queer, promiscuous sexuality, when really the focus was supposed to be solely on the sense of reveling in being economic elites who are "above" the suffering they cause.

Do you know about the Sackler family? It's worth reading a bit about the book "Empire Of Pain." That's the other inspiration besides Poe.

Definitely gonna check out some Poe, thanks for the tip! It was definitely a gruesome scene, I didn't see it as targeting sexuality really. I mean Verna admired the scenery and Perry, when she was talking about it that was one of my favorite scenes this episode. Nearly all of the characters are sexually fluid, but also a lot of things (greedy, do drugs, throw money at everything), but I think its to fill their emotional void, and all their selfish actions directly link to their deaths. One cool thing I did notice all the death scenes had a specified colored tint to them: Perry was red, Camille like either a greyish white or light blue, Napoleon is yellow, Victorine is orange, Tamerlane is green and Frederick is blue. It made me think of the 7 deadly sins, and Perry would definitely be lust. Although the research I did was so mixed on the colors sins represent, I still it was visually such an interesting choice! Do the colors maybe have something to do with Poe's work, what do you think?
