you know i'm noticing when coloring that i have a certain fear to add too dark shadows on the art, and then decided to search info about and it seems we usually tend to not be daring with the use of dark colors when shadowing and actually that's a bad behavior, most of the realistic shadings we see use a high contrast between light and dark colors

so don't be afraid to use dark colors in the shadowing areas, if your subject is against a single source of light or even in sunlight, it is surprising how dark they can look in contrast with the light areas

just be careful as this rules doesn't apply when you work for example with an ambient occlusion effect or with a cloudily daylight and with a photo session with light diffuser and several sources of white light, the shadows here are minimal
