Hey everyone,
Some of you may know that today is World Mental Health Day. I’ve given a lot of thought to making this post and decided that, in light of what this day stands for, my voice matters just like everyone else’s.
Mental health is something I believe the majority of people struggle to keep stable in this day & age, especially with the current global situation. In parts of the world people have experienced a locked-down version of living: being alone, no social interactions, uncertainty like nothing we’ve ever experienced before, anxiety, loss.. on top of the immense pressure of modern life. 2020 has been incredibly difficult and trying. As someone who has and still does struggle with mental health problems, I understand the impact of this new way of living and how damaging it can be.
I want to tell you that you’re not alone in how you feel. I don’t ever want you to feel alone. That doesn’t mean that your struggles are less important, not in the slightest, but it means that there are others out there who can relate to how you are feeling. Whatever your struggles may be, however it affects you, everything is so relative to your own life and it’s so important to talk about how things impacting your mental health.
I could never know exactly how you feel, or what you’ve been through, or how much you are struggling right now but I can tell you that you are valued. You are loved & cared for. You matter.
This year especially, it is so important to take care of your mental health. To make time for yourself. To make decisions that are the best ones for you. You deserve so much and you deserve to be happy.
You are all such incredible, amazing, generous people who choose to support me for reasons I’ll never fully be able to understand. Having this little community that you’ve helped me to build has been a lifeline in a very difficult time. You have all helped me so much, in so many ways, and because of you I’ve had a sense of direction throughout all of this uncertainty. You’ve kept me being creative, you’ve supported me, praised me, encouraged me, reassured me and comforted me. You are the reason I’m still here making audios, why I’m happy & resilient. I wish I could give you even a fraction of everything you’ve given to me, but I guess I’ll have to aim for the moon and hope I land amongst the stars.
Thank you for keeping me grounded and above water. For taking care of me. You mean so much to me. Happy World Mental Health day – here’s to looking after ourselves and others.
