That mirror actually is a window to the ward's hallway, allowing the asylum staff to easily check on the patient's well being and totally not invade her (non existing) privacy.

You mean, the mirror is how that in the interrogations room?

Yup, I'm not sure how those are called in english, actually... one way mirror, maybe ?

It's called a two-way mirror. All the patient sees a mirror, but behind the mirror is a hole in the wall. This allows the nurses to monitor the patient. The patient is unaware of this, so may say or do things she otherwise wouldn't, if she knew she was being watched.

She's aware that it's a two way mirror since the other side is in the hallway. However she can't know if someone is watching or not !
