First Goal: Custom map creator! (Patreon)
Content
In a recent (Patrons-only) post, we outlined some work we had done on one of our most requested features—a custom map creator. Here's a short excerpt:
The idea is that map creators would download Unity engine and import the Davigo map editor package. This package would contain all the assets needed to create a Davigo map: rocks, trees, cannons—the like. To sculpt the geometry of the map, the creator would be free to use any tool that can export 3D meshes to Unity (or popular in-engine modelling tools like ProBuilder). Creators would then export the map and be able to immediately play it in game.
As of right now, we have a prototype that proves the idea. To take it further, we've set our first Patreon goal: At $2500, we will work towards bringing that prototype to a fully functional first draft.
Adding the ability to import custom maps requires a fair amount of new code, so initially custom maps would only be playable on the prototype builds. However, we'd release the Unity editor package publicly, so that everyone would be able to create maps.
Since not everyone is accustomed (ha) to using the Unity editor (or mapping and modding games in general), we'd aim to release a short tutorial to help get newcomers up to speed. This would be our first foray into modding for Davigo, so we're pretty excited to see what the community can come up with—drop your idea for what kinda map you want to make in the comments below!
