I’m so excited to see your reactions to this series. It’s going to be so much fun. Personally, I always wanted Cap and Black Widow to get together (in the comics and the MCU) but I’m biased because I’ve already seen their son in action in the 2008 animated movie Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. His name is James Rogers (after Bucky) and he’s the spitting image of his mom but wants nothing more than to be like his dad.

Captain Carter is actually modeled after a hero from the comics called "Captain Britain". The mantle of Captain Britain belongs primarily to Brian Braddock in the comics (Earth-616) and he used a sword as well, the very same sword, in fact, that Captain Carter picked up in Red Skull's Hydra castle in the episode. And it makes a lot of sense to use a hero modeled after Captain Britain in What If...? as Braddock and his variants formed a "Captain Britain Corps." in the comics to combat various multiversal threats.
