I know some people have mixed feelings about mice and rats and other rodents but I’m gonna try to be as clear as possible here. While I love animals of all kind, these rodents, or pests, do thousands and thousands of dollars in damage out here in the desert to your vehicles. I have a friend who had over $9000 in repairs, these rodents serve no earthly purpose other than to completely disable our vehicles. I don’t care if they live a happy life somewhere else but once they come into my RV, it’s either the cats that will get them inside or the traps outside to keep them away from my RV wires. I am shocked at how many pack rats there are that just will not stay away from the engine compartment of my RV. And it’s not for lack of trying either. I have the DC sonic ultrasound repellent hooked up, I have three different lights aimed at the engine compartment, and four different traps on top of the motor which are constantly catching these guys day and night. Yes, even in the middle of the day I get a snap. And it just never ends. so I’m just doing what I Gotta do out here to survive and keep my RV running at this point. Any other suggestions for keeping them at bay other than what I’m already doing, please let me know. Thanks.

Commerical facilties guy here. Our pest vendor just applied this product to one of our buildings that has history of mouse issues. They swear by it. Only been a few weeks but seems to be effective thus far. The way it was explained to me is that rats and mice leave pheromones on anything they come in contact with. The pheromones then basically become a freeway entrance ramp for other rodents to follow. This product has essential oils that block the pheromones from being smelled by other rodents. https://www.animaltrapsandsupplies.com/products/propell-rodent-repellent-gl.html

Like is said before. Pure peppermint oil saturated on cotton balls it has kept the rats away, we even have our Arlo camera film them come and then they leave very quickly. But do set traps around the perimeter of your dwellings. And the water bucket method too.

Eric I do not see my comment from before so I will tell you again because they moved around so much dirt and Doug and everything else they have brought up a lot of critters and made your property appealing to them you have nobody around you so there's nobody going in and out and making noise and all that to keep them from attacking you you need to be real careful with the cats and Tig cuz you don't want them to get bit these rats and critters carry nasty stuff with them you need to get a hold of the vet to see anything special that you can do or a kid that you can keep on hand We finally had to contact the local pest control and they came out and attacked everybody took a few times but then they were gone but also you can talk to them they're usually really nice and they'll give you some suggestions especially if you tell him that you're new and you can't really afford it yet because of everything else you're doing you have to be aggressive now or it will be a long time before you get rid of them also beware of snakes all those rats attract the snakes and remember we've got bad snakes Rattlers and such I know what I'm talking about we had an acre and a half we had to cut in 320 ft to get to our property and then we had to level part of our acre so that we could build there before we retired we sold it gladly got a better RV and away we went You make sure that you have traps in babe and in your tool shed besides your RV they will get in there good luck take care

When we had a travel trailer the salesman told me to buy a few bars of Irish Spring Soap and stick them in all of the compartments. 10 years, never saw a mouse. Not sure if the soap did it or not but cheap enough investment

This is by far my biggest fear of RVing.

.Dont really have much of a solution other than maybe getting that spray Kevin has?. but You could probably have some fun out of exterminating them. You could get yourself a An Airsoft gun with metal BB's or a small caliber rifle like a Ruger 10/22 and start plinking at them when you catch them scurrying across the dirt. Although I would avoid using poison for them, because if your cats dog or found the poison or the Rodent that died from it they could get very sick.

Eric I used pine-Sol last summer up at Raidies and Ausias and it works pretty good for me. I just sprayed it around wherever the mice in the pack rats had been using as a roadway.

No mixed feelings here, you need an armory. I have no other bright ideas other's haven't already mentioned or I may have last time. Wish you Luck! They have met their match we hope, those are huge ugly rodents.

Eric my husband talked to our bug Guy he said if the things you're trying aren't working then you're going to have to use poisonous stuff your best bet is to have an exterminator come out because they should make sure that everything's okay for your animals Hopefully you can find something else to work because he said to put the poison yourself you've got to be so careful because you have pets and the exterminators will come out and see exactly what kind and all that stuff Hope this info helped let us know

Interestingly, rodents are attracted to engines because they're looking for warmth and water, and they chew on wires because the plastic insulation contains soy. Someone else already said it, but they hate the smell of peppermint. Mix peppermint oil with water and put it in a spray bottle, then spray down the engine compartment. I'm told rodents won't go near it after that.

A friend of mine swears by the Irish Spring soap treatment as well.
