Not the last of this story... I will fight this, but now is not the time. It's been suggested by a few friends that I quit YouTube and go to Missouri to fight this now and not give up until I win. While I appreciate any and ALL suggestions, I simply cannot go that route right now. My channel will die, and my channel is my job and income. I will update you again when there is another update to this story. Or, if you have advice on legal counsil in Missouri, please message me privately.

$7,000 Scam. Ouch....

Tango165

No need to go to there, you can file suit against then through an attorney, you should be able to resolve this, will take time and money…. People suck, sorry this happened to you.

Nomadic Fanatic

Small claims court in Missouri is only up to $4,000... So I need to find a better way to go after them.

Anonymous

This is insane. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s other people out there also filing lawsuits against them.

Debbie Kurtzman

This is really sad to hear. But, I believe Tango165 is right, just file the lawsuit, and then probably wait…

JOhnM

Call a Missouri lawyer. You had a clean title and should receive one.

Anonymous

Wow, so sorry Eric - some people truly suck. Tricia

Donnie

Wow! People suck. Sorry this happened.

Bill & Amanda

Don’t give up your channel and income to fight this. You can deal with it back in Missouri when the time comes. It’s a hassle yes but you have a great rv, tator tot and 2 fur babies looking forward to new adventures 👍. + Reba 🐈💕

Joanne Winters

Can you get a copy of the title you submitted to Illinois from Illinois

NancyF

omg Eric that sux. Suggestion, always makes copies of anything and everything you send out.

Nomadic Fanatic

Yes, I can prove I purchased a trailer with clean title and no liens. But I have to now play this game in the courts to prove it...

Nomadic Fanatic

I can easily get the copy as soon as get back. It's the court process I don't look forward to... I can't sit in Missouri for years and years making sure I don't miss another posponed court date...

NancyF

I hear ya, never a fun thing. They can drag on and on. I just hope it all works out for ya.

Mysterious Cat

Bypass the courts altogether. Get a lion and go round to their office.

Anonymous

That sucks. Hope you can get this sorted quicker than expected.

Night Akula

Is it possible to just pay the lien on the chassis? It should cost a fraction of what the original trailer cost, and would probably be way cheaper than hiring a lawyer and going through a court battle

Anonymous

Good grief Eric. I’m sorry you are going through all of this.

Tom Williams

I did not receive a title for my truck years ago because the place ended up being shady. In Alabama where I live, one only needs a bill of sale to get a tag. Until I went to sell the truck years later, I never had a problem. The guy that bought the truck from me filed paperwork with the right entities that got listed the truck as abandoned or something and a new title was issued.

Anonymous

Very Shady business. I heard about other giant shady companies selling used cars online doing the same thing. They will purchase a car for their inventory with bank loads, the consumer would have to wait months to get the title and tags. You almost need an attorney to buy a used trailer/car like you do a house. New product for the market title insurance for cars, boats, and trailers. Wonder if this exists.

When you get a lawyer, can he/she be your advocate and do the grunt work? Isn't that why you pay them, so they do the work you don't have time or skills to do? I pray someone sends you a referral quickly.

It is good to hear you share the good parts. God gave you insight in what to do even though you were getting flack at the time. Referring to the exchange of vehicles a couple of weeks ago. Safe travels. Wish I was where you are. I'm a bit homesick.

Deborah Harmse

Indeed. A lawsuit is not always expedient, especially if the company is no longer in business. And do they even have any money to pay you if found guilty and ordered to do so. Much to consider before going the civil suit route.

Deborah Harmse

Seems this world will never run out of crooks. My ex-husband and I got conned out of $10,000 on a vending machine business back in the 80s. Always someone willing to do anything to separate you from your hard-earned money. It’s a damn shame.

Will Culbertson

Man that sucks. What a crappy company. I hope you can get it sorted out. Sounds like you'll have to dump a bunch of money on a retainer for an attorney so they can sit around and handle it for you (but it means you won't have to be there to deal with courts). Glad you were able to find Reba. It gives you a bike to ride around with Tater Tot still available.

Ann Gates

That's pretty rotten. On the bright side you learn something new every time you have to deal with nasty stuff like this! Keep your chin up!

Anonymous

Man, that is insane! Sure hope you get it worked out.

Anonymous

This will work out in your favor; you just need to get an attorney to work it out. We have very favorable laws for consumers, and this is a slam dunk win for you. An example is that if you bought some tires and the manufacture was not paid, they in no way can come after you. I know that as I own my own wholesale business and my lawyer indicates that if the company, I sell to does not pay me then I am stuck, I cannot go after the person that bought from the company I sold to. Just hire a lawyer and it will be fine.

Anonymous

Unbelievable!

Drink about it for a while...something will come to you as a good solution. Brainstorming, but maybe a salvage title or creating a new vin number. There are plenty of people who "make" their own trailers and get them inspected and titled.

JPM

Can you apply for a lost title thru Illinois?

JPM

Thats a bunch of crap. So what you are saying is the original maker of the parts for the trailer is still owed money from Silverline Trailers? The company that supplied the parts is the one that filed the lien? Have you spoken the the original company that sold the parts Silverline Trailers? What are they saying? This sounds just like a lien a sub contractor would put on a home because the general contractor did not pay the sub contractor the money for the work. I would definitely try to get a good attorney, but you need to make sure it won't cost too much. I would also sue for all your attorney fees and travel expenses. But how much is it worth paying a lawyer when it may exceed the original $7000.00. What a damn pickle you are in. I cannot believe how much bad luck you have. I have always figured the lien would be on the title? So now any purchase we buy could have a lien regardless if it is on the title. So now I have to hire a title company to complete any car, or RV or trailer purchase, if so what a joke. The good news is it looks like Silverline Trailers has roughly 26 locations, so maybe they are not going out of business anytime soon.

Robert Foster

Your older videos went into all of the nitty gritty of the problems of nomadic life. Why not just make a trip to Missouri one of your videos and just cover the whole thing as part of your channel? After all, we the viewers may be shopping for trailers, RV’s, and so on so viewers would probably want to know about scams and problems like this. I mean how would you avoid this, get down on the tarmac and check to see if there’s a VIN on the chassis different from the VIN on the side? What about the in’s and out’s of filing a civil case in a Missouri court without a lawyer? I’ve never done that. $7,000 is a lot of money to most folks.

Cranky Photographer

OK... you had the clean title in your hand at purchase? That's what I think you said. If you did... the problem is also with the original company (trailer frame) that is now putting a lean on your property. Assuming you are right... and assuming I understood you... The clean title that went to the DMV (that you had in hand) is the legal title. Attaching a lean out of spite or anger isn't legal. A clean title in hand is all a "reasonable person" is expected to do. No more. If it was a house there are laws similar to slander laws for "slander of a title". Is the also for other titled goods or just "real property" (real estate)? I don't know. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slander_of_title These are people hoping you don't hiring a lawyer Eric. That's all. You need a lawyer to send out a few "Nasty-Grams" to all involved. The trailer frame company isn't going to spend $5000 on lawyers to save the cost of a $1000+- trailer frame.

It sucks how people just scam all the time and not get a real job I'm for harder penalties glad you have a answer now this can hopefully get fixed soon thanks for posting sorry you are going through this

Anonymous

Have you tried reaching out to the company that put the lien on the trailer? They're also a victim of this scam, and they may be willing to work with you. See if they'll accept a small portion of the lien amount to settle it. It sucks to pay more for something you already own, but it may be your best option, and cheaper than fighting it legally, especially if you factor in your time cost. If you choose to, you can then pursue legal action against the company that sold you the trailer for whatever amount you pay, but I suspect that's a dead end.

Debbie T

I agree to try and work with the company that put the lien on the trailer. I’d try that first before even talking to a lawyer.
