After looking at the solar costs and needing an installer anyway, I have officially decided on paying for Wayne's trip up to basecamp from Florida. Since he did the install on Miranda, he's going to be able to more easily take pieces from that install to make it work on the van. I'm not stripping everything off the Class A, but "borrowing" a few things to save money and (in case you haven't heard) many parts are backordered and out of stock right now, so I've very lucky to have everything I need except wire. I'm going for 640w on the roof (which will cover the entire roof front to back above the AC and vent raised up 2 inches over them) and then 300 amp hours of lithium storage. No sense in putting 500-600 amp hours of storage if you might struggle to refill those hours with solar. Van life will be different than RV life, no aurguing that. Everything is smaller (even the TV will be small and use less energy. But you have to remember - I strive to live OUT of my RV always. Outdoors and in nature. But it's nice to have a secure dry place to be when needed, and I still need power for laptop and some TV lounge time. As for right now, I'm going to go pickup a portable AC unit for the van because I'm not going to enjoy working inside the van here without AC. That's my update!
