So... yesterday I attempted to install those new power steps. Lol. I was sweating and cussing undernieth the RV all afternoon. It was a very awkward task, and the darn thing weighs over 80lbs. I had some friends from Modified Auto come out to help as well and we just could not get them lined up no matter what. For one, the lag bolts no longer protrude far enough to hold the steps. (That's a strange problem that none of us can explain) But also, the bracket holes are SLIGHTLY different that the LCI steps! Yes, they are advertised as "direct fit replacement" but we measured the center of the holes and it's off by more than 1/2" all around narrower. So, I worked on this all afternoon yesterday... Ended up having to cut out the enter floor on the first step because of the way Coachmen installed these steps. They are not meant to be repaired or replaced, again Coachmen thinks you just throw the RV away when an LCI component goes out. The bolt heads were constructed INSIDE the layers of the OSB flooring with no access at all. On top of that - they put in horizontal screws from the side of the RV BEFORE building the exterior walls and there's no way to EVER UNSCREW THEM FOR MAINTENANCE. I tell you, I'm pretty disgusted by Coachmen with every repair I've had to make. Today, a friend is taking me to Lowes to get flooring, new lag bolts, a metal bit, and a metal cutting tool for my air hose. But I'll probably wait a couple more days before getting back into it after this fail. lol.
