Flesh Symbiont, Hand

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

Compendium edit: Crafted by Thumblemore the wizard, this cursed lump of dormant flesh needs a host to emerge from its slumber.Over the course of attunement, it slowly attaches itself to the stump of your lost hand, shifting hue and morphing its shape to make your previous hand. The results aren't always perfect; roll 1d6+1 to determine the number of digits your hand will have. The first digit is always a thumb, and a mouth forms in the hand’s palm.

The symbiont feeds off of you, siphoning your magical energy. When you complete a long rest, you must make a DC10 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, you lose one spell slot of your lowest available level. 

You have +3 to spell attacks and can cast the vicious mockery cantrip at will using your spellcasting save DC. On a missed spell attack, a mouth suddenly appears on your hand and blurts out insults and mockeries at you, causing you to become ‘timorous’. While timorous you make spell attack rolls with disadvantage. If you hit with an attack roll, you remove this condition

Alternatively, as a bonus action you can punish your insolent hand, taking 1d4+1 bludgeoning damage, and restoring your sense of self-worth and removing the ‘timorous’ condition.

Symbiotic Nature. The symbiont can’t be removed from you while you’re attuned to them, and you can’t voluntarily end your attunement to it. If you’re targeted by a spell that ends a curse, your attunement to the symbiont ends, and it can be removed. It reverts to a dormant lump of flesh.
