After Show: Easier to open iPods

Comments

Ardimo Harsa

The mini is indeed one of the easier iPod to open. Kind of want to have one again since I bought one last year and somehow I broke the clickwheel while opening it

Anonymous

Now this is great lateral thinking - make it easier and we are more willing to fix and benchmark. Great vid as always bud, stay well! Thank YOU!

Anonymous

Ahah it’s hurt to watch the clips being snipped of the second gen seeing as how rare and pricey they are now

Anonymous

I’ve killed two minis trying to slide them out now lmao you think I would have learned after the first. Awesome videos!

dankpods

I feel that. But this guy is gonna get chewed to hell with being opened a whole bunch of times! Also of the guts die I will reuse the clipped case on the next one 🤞

Anonymous

Lovely!

Anonymous

About the main channel video: I wonder if unofficial software (like Winamp for Windows) would be more lenient and would be easier to sync

Anonymous

ive just brought a mini lol, cant wait to flash mod it. How many gigs can it handle?

Anonymous

I just bought a 6th gen with a busted HDD, and thennnnnnn watched that latest video. It's going to be my first time trying to open an iPod so wish me luck.

Anonymous

was that the foam that came with my shrek?

Ty34er

I understand it, but it hurts my soul. Also, have you tried putting the "Sprinting" Bluetooth adapter on a dock? Should make it a bluetooth receiver.

Anonymous

It was hard to watch the clips getting snipped on the third and second gen pods but I won’t stop you from doing that to your own iPods. I actually thought you were gonna put the 1tb black back onto the iPod by now with how little you want to keep opening it

dankpods

Windows is garbage for iPods, even mono-4th gens can be hard to see/sync

Anonymous

You have so much experience opening up these iPods. You should design your own outer case!! But I guess that would be a lot of work 😅

Anonymous

Yes. Just yes.

Anonymous

I remember having to replace the clickwheel on my mini when I upgraded the disk to a CF and I broke that damn cable off. And then managed to catch the centre button on the chassis and scrape some of the coating off of the button. Worth it for 16G of flash storage though

Anonymous

That’s a so smart. How did you not think of this before?

dankpods

Well it pains me to do this to them but they are going to get all chewed out with mods one day anyways!

dankpods

I dunno actual as I've been using loose foam from my studio build from 2 years ago too ha

dankpods

Oh it didn't feel nice, but these are also the runts of my collection that for one thing or another will never be a regular daily drivable pod. Also if I need to use a new iPod as a benchmarker I will transfer these modded cases onto it, I'll never clip another iPods wings!

LegitBananaMan

I so badly hope you clean the other half of the fourth gen, it makes me cringe everytime I see that big ol beauty.

Anonymous

But but... it's Two Face the iPod! That's like renaming Geir's iPod to Bob's iPod...

BytesGuy

"so many layers to these onions" nice shrek reference ;)

Suggestion for a new video: Flash mod a Zune?

Anonymous

I have a dead Zune in my drawer somewhere but nothin’ happens if I try to boot the damn thing lol, I’d be interested to see what all you can do with them nowadays.

Anonymous

The 2 gen basically just has an Altoids tin on the back.

Anonymous

What if you dropped your ipod though

Anonymous

DONT YOU DARE BREAK THAT SECOND GEN I AM BEGGING YOU

Anonymous

i cant help but notice that non of theses ipods have been in a video since lol

Anonymous

Ladies and gents: it's the Boyz from the Benchmark

Anonymous

This is like circumzising the ipods

Anonymous

Wait, you watch Linus Tech Tips too??? This is the best dollar I've ever spenttt

Anonymous

It'd be cool if you could get a custom case with like, machine screws or clips you could disable with like, a slide locking mechanism or something of the sort, so you could have it hold together properly but still be easy and repeatable to access the juicy innards.

Anonymous

Easy to open hard to stay closed but they won't be carried around anymore so that should be fine.

Anonymous

I first watched your videos because they were recommended after watching a Linus Tech Tips video. Glad to know I went full circle real quick. Paid my American Eagle in a heartbeat. (You also got me to buy the Sony WH1000-XM4 and I don’t regret it in the slightest).

Anonymous

Figure out how to put like hinges on one side so you can open it like a book, and then how to put a small lock mechanism so you can somewhat secure them.

Anonymous

Apple, putting the clips in their iPods to hold them together: "Am I a joke to you?"

Anonymous

castrating ipods 101

Anonymous

@dankpods Hey I think you might have knocked out at resistor on that iPod mini. I saw a little knub that fell out when you pushed it up.

Anonymous

Looks more like a clip or soemthing than a resistor, but good catch

Anonymous

lucky for me my ipod mini one of the screw holes is completely stripped so one less thing for me to do

Anonymous

Did we ever see these again? I don't think I ever noticed.

LandoCali96

apple never wanted you to open any of their products lol
