New patreon sales tax for US citizens (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone!
As you probably know by now, patreon is now required to take sales tax on pledges in the US. It's similar to the VAT tax that was already a thing for European patrons.
What does this mean? Well, it means that, depending on where you live and how they handle their taxes, you might see a small increase in your pledge payment. I had the possibility to go through all my tiers and adjust just what kind of content they have, for these tax reasons.
Of course, I had to be honest in these, otherwise it would be fraud, and I can imagine they wouldn't be happy about that. Thankfully, I also learned that things like 'general support' and 'bonus content' or 'behind the scenes content' are not taxed in the majority of the states, so with a bit of luck, the tax on my patreon tiers will be minimal. I tried to minimize it to the best of my abilities and within legal means, anyway.
I sincerely hope this won't affect your pledges, but I would understand if the added tax makes you rethink. You have to look after yourselves first, after all. Thank you for reading :D
