Now I think that I had never mentioned Idols' weapons, and well... they use sound as a weapon. To be more clear, they are the ultrasonic weapons themselves. Hollow parts and strings make for a good vessel for the vibrations to be formed within.

Also, their leg structure prevents them from accidental movements, so the sound beams (long range) are focused, and, if needed, sound blasts (short range) are withstand.

The other thing that I wanted to mention is that they don't feel almost anything. Yes, they have some basic and rudimentary understanding of what might be good (maintenance or touching by their Creators or Achme-Kha), and what is bad (damage to the shell), yet they aren't capable of anything that is beyond that range, and nothing can't be changed. They can be ordered to behave in a certain way, but it will be just an order, an illusion that there is something more to the weapon, than a weapon. 

For example: "be curious, explore your surrounding", with this order they will walk around, will be making moves like they are looking at something (directing body to the sides, even exaggerating), yet inside them there's nothing, they felt and knew their surrounding from the moment as they arrived (like, position of the objects, walkable paths, possible dangers (doors, vents, power cells, generators etc, anything that produces or consumes energy, leads to unreachable, unknown places) ). Same will be with any other order, they know the words and definitions, yet for them they mean nothing.

Quite a sad thing to any romantic soul, for when the war is won, there's no place for machines, but to serve once again, when the time comes.
