I took a skillshare class on surface pattern design and it prompted me to make a fabric pattern based on Criminal Minds.

Most of the icons could be for any FBI/law enforcement show (and I may repurpose some for, say, an x-files or twin peaks pattern.) But I  added a few that were specific to Criminal Minds like Reid's shoulder bag,  Garcia's Glasses, The Jet, etc

I have a hard time limiting my pallet but I managed to get this down to  six colors (with varying shades)

I started with a single icon to get the basics down and tried a few colorways

Then I tried a toss pattern. It took a long time, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I put the pattern up on spoonflower so now I have a Criminal Minds top

Eventually I came back to the class to post my work and remembered that we were supposed to make it in a few color ways.

So I spent most of today working on that.

I'm working on some filler patterns now. I don't have anything I'm crazy about yet, just some experiments.

It's all too saturated and busy right now but there's the start of some ideas that I like. And I'll probably make some more single icon patterns. I think eventually I can put together a whole collection for my portfolio.

Let me know what you think! Are there any colorways you particularly like? Or specific icons you think should get their own pattern?

This is great! Even JoAnns is selling specially printed fabric on demand now, so this could be a new path. I love it!
