I've had "patreon post about camp" on my to do list forever. And now I can cross it off my list once because I still need to write about sex camp.

But! I saw the Camp exhibit at the Met and here are my photos and review.

The clothes were fabulous but the exhibit itself wasn't great. It was much smaller than their fashion exhibits usually are and the layout felt very cramped. It also just had some logistical issues (weird traffic flow, hard to read signage, an overabundance of text) that definitely took away from the experience.

If you don't know what camp is, this exhibit wasn't really going to teach you. Which is ironic because there was SO MUCH TEXT trying to tell you what it was.
From what I skimmed, its roots are in the rococo era. The first known usage of the word was in a Molier play. It's very queer. Something about Christopher Isherwood.

Eventually they just gave up and gave us a big room of cool clothes.

This could be an interesting take on the classic half-and-half act.

This was from a cute section that showed camp outfits and the outfits they were inspired by/deconstructing/making fun of.

This was fromthe same thing but the layout was so cramped I couldn't get a photo of both dresses.

I just like to spiked pearls.

As the met gala showed us, everyone thinks they know what camp is, but none of them agree. I wish the exhibit had done less explaining and shown us more influences. There was no mention of John Waters or Divine which is almost a crime.
