I'm getting better at compositing. It's a weird experience, though, because I'm so used to making art with my hands. I kept wanting to just reach out and scrunch something, or smooth a line with my finger, or scratch it with a knife. I miss the messiness and touch of the random. The "scratches" in the texture are too uniform, not random enough.

Of course, when I'm making something by hand I find myself wishing I had all the advantages of photoshop. *shrug emoji*

I'm sure the better I get to know photoshop, the closer I'll get to what I want. Still, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

This is nice. I could use this effect for something I'm working on. Any particular Skillshares (or other tutorials) you's recommend?

This was actually pretty simple. I took a photo of a rusty piece of metal with paint flaking off and then used a mask to paint sections away with a few different brushes on various flow settings. Then I made another layer that I painted with some watercolor brushes (just using black) and then painted it away the same way I did with the rust photo. I probably played with the opacity, too.
