I've been talking about doing self portrait photography for a couple years now but now I'm REALLY going to start soon.

I've been pintresting for a long time and I have a very clear idea of what I want the overall look to be but getting specific was...intimidating. I have an overwhelming amount of clothes/costume pieces that I can put together and then I have to make hair/makeup/prop decisions... It was too much.

This happens to me a lot. I have BIG DREAMS that have to be carved into small bites or they'll never exist in the world.

I kind of feel the same way about color schemes. I'm pretty good at deciding which colors I like together, but there's SO MANY where do I start? Also how do I make sure I use a variety of colors and not just PURPLE AND PINK ALL THE TIME FOREVER? I love unexpected color combinations, but I'm terrible at making them.

Finally I just picked a dress that I knew I wanted to shoot and used Illustrator's color helper to make a pallet around it. It suggested colors I wouldn't normally think to use, even though I like them. I mean, brown? Is that even a color? Of course it is, and it is often used in gorgeous ways, I just always forget that.

After making pallets for a few dresses, this pallet suggested something forest-y. he dress itself is sort of a greek-statue-on-crack type thing so I thought a dryad would be a good character, which made me think of the upper right photo from my pintrest board. From there I just added more images that seemed to go with it. And now I have a more clear idea of what this shoot is going to be.

"Also how do I make sure I use a variety of colors and not just PURPLE AND PINK ALL THE TIME FOREVER?" Well you accessorize with black, duh.
