I never really learned much about watercolors in my art classes but they are all the rage on skillshare and I do own almost every art supply known to man. So I bust out a set to see what I could do.
At first I was underwhelmed.

Watercolors are terrible for a perfectionist, which is kind of why I wanted to try them. My perfectionism is bad for me and my work is best when I let go of control.
On the other hand, these results were... not great.

So I took another tack. I tried a landscape. I'm not sure why. I've never really had an interest in landscapes. But the lack of backgrounds in my images has been an issue and my photography experiments have shown that I actually *do* have an interest in landscapes, I'm just not totally sure why.

Anyway, I got this.

And I love it!
The unpredictability really works for natural subjects and is great for creating texture without getting bogged down in details. Yes, technically, people are natural subjects but we're very particular about what they *should* look like. But for a natural background, just a suggestion is enough.
I finished up the evening with the winter forest at the top of this post. I'm very happy with how it turned out and I look forward to doing more.

Yep... you can NEVER STOP PATREONing... and ditto the eventual want of an original or print for my wall someday!! That winter forest is gorgeous. Also... thank you for the inspiration to fight my need for precision and break out the watercolors (AND ALL OF MY ART SUPPLIES FOR THAT MATTER!!).
