Potential

Buffy takes the Potentials to a demon bar, and then to Spike's crypt, in order to teach them the art of slaying. When Willow casts a spell to seek out the next Potential, the spell leads them to believe that Dawn may be a future slayer.

The writers were so mischievous for throwing in that red herring of Dawn being a potential 😭 so I needed to wait until this episode to explain my theory about why the First is now attacking + what the Beljoxa’s eye said. Last episode you suspected that the First Evil is now attacking because two slayers live at the same time, but I don’t think that’s the whole reason. I think it’s because two *active* slayers are now living (who could both carry on the lineage), because Willow accidentally resurrected Buffy as an active slayer in Bargaining. Maybe not even accidentally, perhaps that was part of the conditions for Osiris allowing it to happen. She does say “here lies the warrior of the people, let her cross over”. In this episode Buffy says “my death could make you the next slayer”. At this point in time, there are two active slayer lines. *I think* Dawn and Xander’s moment at the end is so sweet and heartwarming. But yea I can’t help but feel like Xander momentarily forgot she’s mystical portal energy embodied in a human lol

yep :) also I forgot to add that the Beljoxa’s eye said something like “the slayer line has been irrevocably altered”.. to me that screams two active slayer lines. because if faith was still the only one carrying the slayer line, it wouldn’t be “irrevocably” changed.

That dialog at the very end with dawn and Xander was so good but im a little curious, when Xander was talking about how he stayed the same and all his friends kept getting more powerful, he mentioned the witch the demon and Oz, when it comes to him saying the demon, at first I thought Anya but when we first meet Anya she is already a demon so she didn't actually grow and become more powerful so I almost wonder, if we think buffy season 1 cast, their is someone on it that has become a demom and grown to be more powerful, that is miss Cordelia Chase, so I really would like to think they were talking about her

Whenever I see Amanda (the actual Potential) in this episode, I immediately think of Freaks and Geeks, a short-lived but awesome gem of a show which aired in 1999. Sarah Hagan is the actress and she was one of the main characters in that series. Something to put on your list, Sophie, if you're ever looking for a new show! Only 13 wonderful episodes.

It never made sense to me that Dawn could be a potential, because she's not part of the natural order of this world. She's this foreign thing inserted into the world, so there's no way she could be part of the slayer line.
