Oh man I've been so excited for you to get to this one!! One of my favorite episodes in the series for sure. I love how this episode really makes it clear that Peyton's feelings for Lucas have been buried the whole time, never really gone--she tried to move on in s2 by being with Jake and staying mostly away from from Lucas, but then they spent the summer together and rebuilt their relationship as a foundation of real friendship. And because she didn't want to ruin that, and because she didn't want to hurt Brooke, she continued suppressing those feelings as much as she could all season--first with outright denial (though obviously her feelings slipped out when her guard was down, like when she was drunk and when she'd been shot), and then with throwing herself into her fling with Pete, and then trying to get back together with Jake. It's all just her desperately trying to avoid the truth about her feelings for Lucas because she doesn't want to hurt Brooke again. But her ACTING in that scene, and the flashbacks of leyton moments....SO top tier. One of my favorite scenes for sure. And even the little parallels through the episode, the way her car breaks down at the same place as in the pilot, but everything has changed...god this whole episode is so well-done, I love it. Also, all of Lucas's scenes with Karen are so sweet T_T I love that he wants to be a writer, and that Keith saved a college fund for him.

everytime i get to this episode it just reminds me how much i dislike peyton yikes ! but other than that this ep is definitely a fav of mine. i think brooke was so thoughtful in putting this together for them and i love that all their friends were involved. i think naley has such a special relationship they deserved something like this it was so sweet. also still believe season 3 as a whole was one of the strongest so i’m looking forward to seeing your reaction to the finale !

Such a perfect episode. How they officially reintroduce Peyton's feelings for Lucas is absolutely magical. I have no doubt that Peyton loves Jake a lot, but Lucas has been there for Peyton in a way that no one else has. Of course she still has him in her heart. But, she's had it buried for so so so long for Brooke, and maybe a bit for herself. The proposal scene they reenacted was masterful. Peyton having difficulty saying that she loves Lucas because she knows that she's going to really really mean it, with no hiding from the shield of the trauma of the school shooting. Even when Lucas said "Hey. I love you. You know that?" the second time around, it felt like he meant it too, albeit, in a different way. Ugh, those two have always just pulled at my heartstrings for as long as I can remember. The scenes with Brooke and Haley were so funny - how much Haley disliked the dress. Oh gosh... Genius stuff. And finally, I was really glad to see Brooke connect with Rachel - I think she saw firsthand that Rachel was ~ not okay ~ and reaching out was almost an instinct to her. I'm also super worried about Rachel. I agree, this isn't normal and is borderline obsessive. Again, I really don't think we needed this storyline, this really isn't the way to add layers to Rachel's character, or have the audience sympathize her, but hey, we get what we get. If just for the Brooke and Rachel moments this episode, I'll take it.

Something I LOVE in this episode is the scene where Peyton calls Nathan to come pick her up because her car broke down and he goes to get her. It's a parallel to the very first episode where Peyton called Nathan for a ride and he didn't come. Their friendship development makes me so happy. It really shows Nathan's character development too, with him immediately going to her aid when she needs him.

After all these years I still don’t know how I feel about Peyton telling Brooke about Lucas. The argument works either way. By telling Brooke, Peyton is being honest about how she feels instead of lying and denying it the way that she did in the first season, but by telling her, it casts a tormenting shadow over Brooke’s relationship with Lucas and manifests past traumas that Brooke has been desperately trying to bury. IMO, I think Peyton should have kept quiet about it because if Brooke and Lucas are truly not meant to be, she’ll get her chance at Lucas. But I also don’t fault her decision of being open with her feelings. Either way it was a lose/lose.

i really like how you worded this it’s always been hard for me to articulate how i feel about this situation, personally i think peyton should’ve kept quiet because what’s brooke supposed to do with that information now ? constantly worrying that her best friend is thinking about her boyfriend romantically just puts an enormous strain on not only brooke and lucas’s relationship but her and peyton’s as well. i always found it odd that peyton only seemed to realize her feelings for him when he was finally in a relationship.

To me Peyton is being sort of immature the whole way round....Like skipping town to maybe think about marrying someone and then come back to tell your friend you have feelings for her boyfriend, AGAIN knowing you're history....That's just selfish to me I don't care, like what is Brooke supposed to do with that? Why would you do this to her

Tbh Peyton tried to bury her feelings in season 1 and look what happened. Like someone said above it really is a lose/lose. I’ve always had sympathy for peyton tbh because you can’t control how you feel and her feelings always come out at really bad times.

I don't think Peyton should have kept quiet. If you think about it, the main mistake that Peyton made in Season 1 is that she didn't tell Brooke how she felt about Lucas. I can totally see how she thinks she's correcting her mistakes from the past. It really is a lose/lose situation, but burying it clearly does not work.

My only thing about that is…. now what? She tells Brooke how she feels, but what now? I truly can’t be mad at her for the decision but she’s so all over the place and feeling paranoid and guilty about it that she just acts. The selfless thing to do would be to just let things play out and if/when B&L are over, THEN the confession should come out.

I mean, even if she is being immature--trauma literally affects your brain on a chemical level, especially when you're a teenager and still developing. Ellie just died recently, and then Peyton was /shot/. Yeah, the way she's handled things recently has been kind of immature and maybe even selfish, but she didn't do ANY of it with bad or malicious intentions.

People always say that Peyton was right to tell Brooke about her feelings but idk. Like what she expected? Brooke to be okay for telling her AFTER she took the decision to get back with Lucas? After Brucas happened again, Brooke asked Peyton if she still had feelings for him and she said no, SAME MISTAKE OF SEASON 1. Peyton's mistake in season 1 wasn't not telling her after she was already in a relationship with Lucas . The real mistake was to start a secret relationship with him. What I hate about Leyton , is that Peyton always wants Lucas when he's with someone else. She talks about her feelings about Lucas, AFTER Brooke decided to be vulnerable again around Lucas. If Peyton had said she was in love with Lucas when Brooke asked her, Brooke wouldnt have started a relationship with him. I know Peyton hadnt acknowledged her feelings for him, but GOD'S SAKE this is the same plot of season 1. I'm not taking away Lucas's blame here. But I would've feel more betrayed by MY BEST FRIEND, practically my sister , than by a guy I knew for 3 minutes.
