Yeah. The whole Peyton and Brooke friendship dynamic is always a big topic and everyone questions the strength of their friendship. The thing that’s annoying is that often times people lean one way or the another when in reality it’s both of them who are doing things the wrong way. For Brooke, you would think she would know or at least would be able to see the blatant lies that Peyton is telling. This girl is clearly very much in love with Lucas and she’s so protective of her feelings. Brooke knows this but she’s so into Lucas as well that I don’t think she wants to believe that is what’s happening. As for Peyton, you would think she would know her friend well enough to see that she actually likes Lucas as well and the whole “slut” reputation that Brooke has isn’t at all she is at the core. Those little jabs about how Brooke isn’t the dating kind shows the lack of understanding on her part. Their friendship needs a lot of work.

I agree. They both go about things in a wrong way. I do think though that Peyton realizes that Brooke actually likes Lucas at this point because when they’re in Peyton’s room having a discussion about Lucas and Brooke tells Peyton she would never cut her out for a guy, no matter how happy he makes her. I think Peyton sees how much he means to Brooke. And I think that’s why she struggles even more to open up to Brooke because she is her best friend and she wants her to be happy. Peyton has a history of hiding her feelings at the expense of her own happiness just so others can be happy. She did the same thing with her dad in the next episode. She doesn’t want to tell him she doesn’t want him to leave for work because she doesn’t want him to be upset and not do what he wants. She often forgets about herself and ignores her own happiness.

Of course. At the end of the day, they never should have been in this position to begin with. The first time watching I was annoyed by Brooke and how she just swooped right in between Lucas and Peyton. But after a while I was annoyed by Peyton’s constant denial. There’s a lot of things that could have been done differently but as we know they’re young and they make bad decisions and they should be allowed to make them and learn from it.

I definitely agree with your current outlook on the Brooke/Peyton/Lucas thing. And yeah, I do tie Lucas' change of behavior to his relationship with Brooke, which is unfortunate. Luke annoyed the hell out of me this episode with the way he was acting, and although he sort of came around in the end, you have to wonder if the effect Brooke is having on him, and vice versa, is actually good for either of them.
