I’m definitely wearing some speculating spectacles, but I think Mira’s thought process is something like “If I say yes, then I put Tess into this awkward position, and I don’t want to do that to her. But if I say no, then I have to get a new fake date, and Tess is the perfect fake girlfriend”

In a way I feel like Mira is actually being honest? Like she's trying to play it off as an office politics thing but I think she was genuinely surprised by the question/hadn't thought about it before, and this has made her realize she actually doesn't know how to define their relationship. Because otherwise she could've easily said they're not dating right? There's no stakes, they're only fake-dating for her relatives.
