April wallpaper step by step (Patreon)

Initial sketch - I had a vague idea of them jumping out of a burning building or through a shattered window or something? I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, but I was listeining to the Princess Principal OP on repeat while drawing this, and I knew I wanted something like that :)

Decided this made for a better composition than my original idea.

Neater sketch, for lining.

Lines. I'd originally planned to draw Sunati all shocked/confused, but people on the stream convinced me she should be cautiously excited :)

Detailing the colours on Austen and Sunati

And more details. The background and the glass shards are incredibly lazily done, because I knew I'd be blurring them out and so no one would see any detail anyway :)

I also tried this process for smoothing out the lineart.

Done! I increased the contrast, had fun with the moveable blur tool, added a texture layer, and splotched some random glowy stuff on top of it all because random glowy stuff is always great.
