One of my favorite B-plots of the books was how Barliman Butterbur forgot Gandalf's letter to Frodo. Then Gandalf pursued them after they left Bree and overshot them only to battle all tbe Nazgul on Weathertop while Frodo and Aragorn slogged through the wilderness before Glorfindel, the last High Lord of Gondolin sheperded them into Rivendell. Gandalf tore Butterbur a new one when he returned to Bree with Frodo after the Quest of Mount Doom.

P.S. "Knock your head against these doors Peregrin Took! And if that does not shatter them, that I am left a little peace and quiet then I am trying to find the opening words!" -A kind and wise wizard to the King of Idgets

Tysm for this Chrismahanukwanzachah gift! The Aragorn is going well, though he sounds to me more like Viggo irl than Aragorn, if that makes sense.

Hi Charlie. I was curious if you had considered doing Star Trek reactions. Maybe a Jean luc Picard or something. Some of those early TNG episodes are pretty cringey. Could be funny to watch.

my annual re read this year is now completely due to your comment ;). the return to bagend really always put men in the mindset of a return from Vietnam movie, and its sort of grey in my head and mood. I know, allegory of WWI, I know ;).

are the "riker as a womaniser" cringe-isodes™ in season 1-2?

Glad you felt inspired! Intriguingly though, Tolkien hated allegory as storytelling. Though I'm sure his experiencing in the Trenches bled into his work regardless of intent. The truth is that I have always felt so moved and heartbroken by the end of RotK because Frodo... the Hero of Middle Earth... saved it all but could enjoy none of it due to the scars both seen and unseen, a wound that echoes the nature of the Nazgul. So I definitely see where you are coming from with the returning soldier vibes.

Hey Charlie - ever think about doing Doctor Who, perhaps as the 10th, 11th, and 12th Doctors?

Great stuff, much enjoyed. Thank you. There was a line about the word 'ringwraith' not appearing in "Tolkien's essays". If the essays are to stand for LOTR, within the parody, then I'm afraid that's not right. "The Nazgul they were; the Ringwraiths, the Enemy's most terribly servants; darkness went with them and they cried with the voices of death."

Why didn't you do The Hobbit first? That way it would have been in chronological order. We had the god awful rings of power, then we should have done The Hobbit.

Aragorn is the kinda guy who sends women sketches of his penis through bird messages. lol
