Last piece of 2019 / first piece of 2020!

I went through and documented the Summerset storyline for the Imperial Library. While many of my initial quibbles from beta remain (much of the quest felt like it was region-agnostic, whereas I would have prefered something that needed to take place in Summerset), I had a blast. The Psijics were especially well done, and Valserinn is overall awesome. I know its unlikely, but I hope we get to hang out with them more in the future.

This drawing was a mixed media piece with ink, watercolor, and gouache.

I did a very quick sketch in Photoshop, then printed it and used a lightbox to trace it onto watercolor paper (140lb hot press by Fluid100 in this case). For the drapery of the cape and the general lighting, I used a render I did in Marvelous Designer.

Inking was done with the brush side of a Kuretake 55 brush pen. Its got a wonderful range of line and control. Only downside: less than 100% waterproof, at least on this paper. I ended up spraying some fixatif before starting on the face to minimize the bleed.

Beginning the coloring. Big mops first, in this case a Kolibri squirrel and a Raphael SoftAqua.

More watercolors, just before the big face sharing and background. Final cleanup (such as in the amulet, where the lines bled, as well as in the face) was done in gouache as a final step.

And here's a high res zoomed in shot of the completed painting:
