We're back? We're back.

January ended up even more chaotic than I expected, with some new thing (whether good or bad) happening several times a week. In addition to the big apartment move and all that comes with it - scheduling, rescheduling, unexpected fees and hoops to jump through, getting ghosted by my movers, not to mention the physical task of having to pack everything up - there was a friend's cancer diagnosis and sudden death, a sick cat (chronic, it turns out), an injured dog, a major award nomination for my husband and several friends, an office move (and more tasks to take on at work)... and, and, and.

But we're in February now, moving forward and getting this thing back on the road for a month of love. My art supplies are mostly unpacked, and I've finally upgraded to a multi-monitor setup (thanks to a bankruptcy auction at my former employer) that should greatly improve my digital workflows. Hopefully the chaos is all behind us, and I can settle back into making art and updating the lore world with all the new stuff from the Year of the Dragon.

How's 2019 treating you guys so far? What would you like to see from me first?

From the perspective of a hardcore fan, the game series has become less innovative on every iteration. Partly due simplifaction of game mechanics but also not delivering innovative concepts of the lore. ESO is ok, but fans are waiting for next game to be 'great' and not 'ok,' and TES VI is already being dreaded as simplified iteration. That is why 37 Sermon was one of greatest things fan can find from Vvardenfell DLC, as it is not guaranteed that official games will acknowledge fanfiction/gray dev commentary. ES as a franchise needs unique and innovative concepts to stand alone from mainstream fantasy.

As a different hardcore fan, I'd have to disagree. The game mechanics have definitely changed between every instalment, and in many ways been streamlined, but I don't think that's automatically a bad thing. I put a ton of hours into Skyrim, and the only thing that keeps me from playing a ton of ESO is my own lack of time, not the game's lack of quality. And while Legends just isn't my type of title, I'm very much looking forward to the release of Blades. ESO, in particular, has a ton of new lore and callbacks to old lore. I've got both praise and complaints about its lore, but saying there's not a ton of new concepts in there is just quantifiably not true. I think it's fair to say that its art design (especially in the early parts) is hit and miss, but, since its a totally different studio, I don't think that's a reflection on what TESVI will look like.
