Some people have expressed interest in seeing some kind of change to how the monthly pinup character is chosen. Statistically it's not true that the OCs win every time, but I can see their point and there are certainly some characters that are way more popular than others. Maybe we could make things more varied by adding a little bit of a random element to it. I still don't want your votes to count for nothing, so having the poll and then draw a random one from the top three or four candidates may be a solution.

What do you guys think? Would this be something you're interested in seeing, or do you prefer to keep the system as is?

Another option is a weighted roll/wheel spin; Each vote counts for 1 addition to a wheel/dice roll. So if Monara gets 6 votes out of 20 total, it's a 6/20 chance monara wins.

I definitely think the system needs a bit of a change so that lesser known characters get a fair shake. The random top 3 option is pretty good. Maybe also carry over (a percentage of) votes for the remaining characters to the next poll?

I do like the idea of drawing a random of the top three. Of course, more art will always get my vote. 😋

Maybe a mix of your suggestion and Ferrin's idea. Draw from the top X choices with a weighted roll. That way if it's a close race between the top choices the one with the most absolute votes gets a corresponding advantage in the final selection.

Another way to force variety would be to change the lockout rules. If the winners were prevented from winning again for longer, different characters would necessarily be chosen. This might mean OCs win every 6 months or once per year when they're available but that's less frequent than the current system and leaves more room for others. I've also wondered what would happen if we were allowed to vote for as many characters in the poll as we liked.

Perhaps randomization in the poll options? That way people are still directly voting for the winner and there's no guarantee that the OC get voted to win every 3 months exactly (I think that's the current lockout period?) because they may just not show up.

It just seems bizarre to me that your OCs are included at all. I mean surely those are characters you'd just draw anyway as you please.

I like the 'weighted roll' idea. I'm also thinking perhaps doing separate drawings for OC's and established characters... say, 2-3 months of game/movie/anime characters, and then for the month after that, the OC's get their own drawing.

Just in case you didn't know, I'm not the one deciding on the characters in the poll. They are all suggested by the $10 and $15 tier Patrons. I don't see why them being my own OCs as opposed to other people's OCs or established franchise characters would somehow make them unfit for the monthly image. Obviously I like drawing my own characters and a lot of people like seeing me draw them, so I'm not going to put a stop to that. This discussion is more about trying to get more variety in, not to stop certain characters to participate completely.

I did a winner lockout extension last year from the original 3 months to 4 months, but maybe that could be extended further. I also added the Franchise lockout for the winner, which means that no characters from the same franchise can be added to the poll next month. Perhaps that one could be extended to two months. That one also applies to OCs, so if one of my characters (say Adara) wins, then all of my characters are on a lockout for that period, and if someone's Warcraft OC wins (say Lunetax's Se'al), then it's both Lunetax and Warcraft that's on lockout. Allowing people to vote for more than one option might be something to consider.

Not quite sure how I would do that, especially since the characters in a poll receive a lockout period of one month, meaning they can't be added to the next month's poll.
