As we were shooting this photo-set, Arthur and Lilith arrived at the studio in their customary charity-shop finery, their mutual sense of style and eye for a bargain informing two incredibly strong colour-themed outfits. For the first set of poses we wanted to create a formal, family portrait feel with awkward poses reminiscent of an Otto Dix painting; the subtle variations in gaze and hand gesture differentiate one reference image from another, each combination creating a different dynamic. In the highly cropped portraits they explored the relationships of hands and faces to create abstracted portraits that have already been interpreted to great effect by Lance. We're looking forward to seeing what you make in response to the images over the coming week! As always, you can find more about Lilith and Arthur below the contact sheets.
