In this Studies photo set we take a step back to look at an overview of lots of our wonderful Draw models. As Lance explains in the blog and video which accompany this photoset, skin tone and colour vary hugely both within a model's body and person-to-person. The tones and colours you observe throughout the body will be affected by the local skin colour, and the effects of light. Across a model's body make-up, tattoos and environmental effects like tan lines will create all sorts of additional variations. It is also worth noting how hair tone contrasts with skin tone and how hair distribution affects your perception of a model's skin - body hair is a topic that  Lance will be tackling next week! Lance's tutorial videos and blogs will help to set these images in context, so we recommend looking over those resources to support your drawings:

  • Use the pictures to draw, paint, print and sculpt from, being as realistic or creative as you like
  • Share the artwork you’ve made with us and the world - in books, in exhibitions, on social media, or on your fridge
  • Tag us in work you make (@drawbrighton / #drawbrighton) – you don’t have to, but we love to see what you’ve made!
  • Edit the photo files as reference for your own drawings - you can change the contrasts, colours and backgrounds to provide more tailored reference for yourself.

Please don't:

  • Share these pictures with anybody else – they are between you and us
  • Share the photos themselves online – thanks for respecting our models’ privacy
  • Edit the photo files themselves for artwork – we want to see original work you’ve made
