As I've had lots of requests for Naomi Wood's aerial poses on here we are  publishing her set of mid-air reference images as this months Drawing Circus post. Usually we'd include tableau images, but as you have a huge archive to work through if figured you'd be ok. For some inspiration this month, take a look at how Moatzart is using the images and ideas behind the 'Circus to create dynamic compositions and the how Geo Parkin is bringing characters to life on his instagram feed.

Naomi Wood ran away with the Drawing Circus 5 years ago, standing in for our beloved first aerialist Nomi Mcleod. I first met Naomi two years earlier when she was working as a professional fairy - she modelled for some of the portraits in my first book Draw Faces in Fifteen Minutes and disappeared for months at a time on the summer festival circuit. Her fairy past and drawing circus present collided in the summer of 2015 when we visited Nomi in Devon to put on a Drawing Circus in her local village hall. Naomi & I modelled together as fairy & bewitched circus storyteller for our childhood heroes Alan Lee & Brian Froud - Naomi has been touring with us ever since.

The photos we offer up to you through these drawing circus posts are intended to be open-ended. There are already many narratives within them - the narratives of the stories we were telling in the poses and the (often more dramatic) stories of touring and posing together, but we don't expect you to stay true to them. The stories you draw out of and impose onto the images when you use them develops enriches the creative tapestry that we hope to weave.

Stay safe and keep drawing,

Jake
