I found Book of Boba Fett frustrating. The pacing and shape of the series was all over the place. I would have preferred a sequential story instead of Bacta tank flashbacks, hopping forward in time as necessary until the “present day” (a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away). I found the Tusken stuff amongst the most riveting. I was really bothered by the personality-free mod squad and their look which seemed to be parachuted in from a different franchise. They didn’t look Star Wars, let alone Tatooine. And Robert Rodriguez could not direct himself out of a wet paper bag. The man must be escorted off the Lucasfilm lot by security. There were plenty of highlights such as ep 2 and ep 5, Black Krrsantan, Cad Bane, Matt Berry, Danny Trejo, and the improved Skywalker face. But I found the writing a bit weak (at no point did I feel like the people of Mos Espa wanted Fett to lead them, but he’s prepared to die thinking they do…) with Tem and Ming-Na’s dialogue very banal. The writing was sadly compounded by Robert Rodriguez’s flat direction with the super slow mod bike chase, the underwhelming pew-pew battle where the droids didn’t manage to hit anyone, making stormtroopers look like sharpshooters, and stupid things like Skad doing that spin jump. Overall it feels like wasted opportunity. When BoBF was great, it was fantastic, but it lurched around like a drunk wookie without ever feeling satisfying. Glad Vanth lives, and I hope Bane stays dead, otherwise there are no stakes if people keep popping back to life!
