I just wanted to make some art of what the early robots and early robotics forefathers would've looked like. I love J. C. Leyendecker art, and I wanted to create something reminiscent of his World War I propaganda art for the Saturday Evening Post. 

Early robots were probably more like mechanical automatons who didn't really have self awareness and were entirely optimized for a single specific set of tasks. I would imagine Sterling and his contemporaries were the first to really explore artificial intelligence which led to sentient robots like Emmy.

I was going to write that they had hired Leyendecker for the poster before I read the text. Oh,,, Mah_Buddy brings out a great point I hadn't even considered! :^o
