Astra - Monthly Update (March 2023) (Patreon)

It's Friday!!!!!!!!!! Just here to share the 2023 monthly update with you all. :^)

WRITING

Writing progression is up! Two big notes this time around.

For March break, our writers requested a break which of course was granted and well deserved. We still finishing up Act 2 for March, just a week later than originally planned!

Note number two, the romance confession scenes are finally done!!!! It took a lot of revisions to make sure we had the perfect balance between romantic without being cheesy, cute without being cringe, and passionate without feeling forced. I hope you all look forward to those scenes! On that note, we had to write the 'rejection' versions as well, but of course no player will ever see that content!

BACKGROUND ART

Background has been a bit quiet, we are planned further along than anticipated so we are waiting for the finalized scripting to catch up to know which backgrounds we need. We are also exploring where BGs were reused and if it would be worthwhile to make alternative versions.

ANIMATION

We have been hard at work making the animated title screen!!!!!!! The animation frames are available and finalized color as well, not it's just a matter of putting the two pieces together.

PROGRAMMING

Programming has been SUPER busy this month but not because of Astral Ascension. Our other games for Android need to target the latest minimum API now set at 31. This needed us to update our version of Unity for the games which also changed a bunch of stuff and long story short, the rabbit hole went pretty deep.

Thankfully it is all sorted out and we have also decided to target API 33 so we won't have to worry about updating again for at least the next 2 years.

As for Astral Ascension, we did a few texture size optimizations and that's about it. With writing almost wrapped up for Act 2, our designer will be getting started soon of crafting the scenes!

AUDIO

To accompany the animated title, Eric has made a song for the menu screen! You can have a listen to it in this Patreon post. I honestly love the second half of it, sounds very sci-fi but with an anime-esque adventure vibe!
