Hi everyone, small announcement! Got a lot of notes on the redone Faerun map after posting it on r/dndnext (Also a whole bunch more Patrons so welcome everyone!) Anyways I cleaned up a bunch of little mistakes people pointed out and added/removed things to help better fit into the current realms lore. Edited all the posts on here so they should have the newest version.

Notable Changes Include

  • Added Several Valleys Mountains and New Locations to Chult to bring it closer in line with TOA map.
  • Expanded the Neverwinter Wood, Kryptgarden Forest, and Sword Mountains to resemble the LMoP Map. As well as added more locations from that adventure.
  • Removed the Political border of the Silver Marches as it was disbanded.
  • Removed the Political borders around the Sword Coast as it was mostly just a cause for confusion.
  • Removed Saltmarsh as it is not actually in the realms.
  • Fixed a bunch of dumb spelling mistakes.

Question about the scale - The 40-mile hex scale is substantially larger than some other sources. An example is that the Schley sword coast map and supporting materials (e.g., 5-day journey from Candlekeep to Baldur's Gate). Knowing that Faerûn has changed sizes a bit since the grey box, but that generally speaking the 5e realms are very close to the 2e incarnation, is there a source for the 40-mile hex size depicted in this map?

Another good example is that the west end of the Dragonmere is ~700miles from the sword coast as the crow flies, substantially larger in the hex map.

So funny story about that I used the notes on original reddit thread for the first version of the map and some other large scale Faerun maps as references. That compounded with hearing how the second sundering made Realms larger made and needing space to include more locations had me blow up the scale. Certain areas are further than they should be like the 10 towns for example. Honestly the scale is something I struggle with for these though hoping to have it fixed when I combine Faerun, Kara-Tur, Hordelands and Zakhara

Sounds good! As of now the hexes are close to a 10-mile hex which is much more manageable for gameplay (travel is 1,2, or 3 hexes per day). Love these maps, I’ll just fudge down the scale a smidge in the mean time.
