Laurie J. Marks is the author of nine fantasy novels. Her entire award-winning Elemental Logic series, Fire Logic, Earth Logic, Water Logic, and Air Logic, is available from Small Beer Press. She now is writing Cunning Men, a Dickens-influenced alternate history fantasy novel set in the British Isles in the 1830s. Laurie works at the University of Massachusetts, and shares a little 1910 bungalow with her wife, Deb Mensinger, and their welsh corgi, Serendipity. Any similarities between this selection from Cunning Men and our current pandemic are entirely inadvertent.
